Work placements

During your time at secondary school, you may be given the opportunity to go on a work placement or work experience. The idea of a work placement is to give you a taster of what a job within that type of business may be like. You are there to learn so make sure that you get involved and try any task that is set for you. Often you will be given more simple tasks such as making tea and coffee for guests of entering data on a spreadsheet, but this doesn’t mean that you cannot still take a lot away from the experience.

Spend some time getting to know the other staff and finding out what their day entails as you may find another position within the company that attracts you more than another. Some students enjoy their work experience so much that they actually end up with a part time job out of it or voluntary work.
